California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi has endorsed a proposal that would provide uniform insurance coverage for all Californians who buy fuel. The coverage would be paid for by a per-gallon surcharge ranging from 25 to 50 cents. Proposal details are discussed.

Countering an unexpected skid

Daimler-Benz AG has developed a new electronic system which alters the lateral performance of cars and prevents skidding. Called electronic stability program, the new system uses sensors and computers to detect yaw and make the appropriate corrections.
