Nigel Mansell switched from Formula One racing to IndyCar racing at the end of the 1992 season, and now has won the first IndyCar race of the 1993 season. Mansell finished first in the FAI IndyCar Grand Prix in Queensland, Australia, with Emerson Fittipaldi finishing second.

Mario Andretti won the IndyCar Grand Prix in Phoenix, AZ, on April 4, 1993, while Paul Tracy won the IndyCar Grand Prix in Long Beach, CA, on Apr 18, 1993. World Champion Formula One driver Nigel Mansell, in his first IndyCar season, hit the wall during practice at Phoenix.
