Over 73,000 spectators turned up at VisionAire 500 while only 9,000 fans viewed the Pennzoil 200 cart racing competition which left vacancies totaling over 70,000 seat. Buddy Lazier won the race at VisionAire while Robbie Buhl won the Pennzoil race.

Swedish race car driver Kenny Brack's two successive wins at the 1998 IRL races has moved him from 7th to 2nd place in IRL points. He scored these victories at the Visionaire 500K in Concord, NC, and Radisson 200 in Fountain, CO.
