Mercury's Mountaineer is only a few styling differences apart from the Ford Explorer, one of the world's most popular vehicles. The Explorer's new 4.9-l V-8 is also available on the Mountaineer. The $29,765 Mountaineer, like the Explorer, is a roomy vehicle meant more for families than off-road driving.

The results of a comparison test between the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, and Ford Expedition, are presented. The three vehicles were evaluated based on criteria such as on- and off-road handling, and driver comfort. The Ford model rated highest, while the Chevy Suburban was lowest.
