Stewart Grand Prix has concluded an agreement with Ford Motor Co to have exclusive use of the Ford F1 engines, beginning in 1997. The agreement has come about primarily as a result of Jackie Stewart's vision of the promotion opportunities that the future holds for Formula 1 racing.

The British American-Tobacco-backed Reynard F1 team is scheduled to compete in Formula 1 races in 1999. The team will be funded with an $80 million budget every year for a five-year term. The name of the new team is British American Racing.
