The federal government is to blame for endangering the public by prematurely mandating airbags in cars before fully understanding their dangers. Testing of airbags on only adult male dummies is severely biased against women, children, and other people of smaller stature.

An October 21, 1991 memo shows that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) knew of six cases of car occupants killed by airbags. Language in the memo indicates the NHTSA worked to conceal this information from the public.
