One of the most impressive cars during the Grand Prix season in 1997 was the Bridgestone-shod Ligier driven by Olivier Panis. His Prost Ligier-Mugen Honda finished the Magny-Cours circuit in record one minute and 13.25 seconds. It was purchased by four-time World Champion Alain Prost.

Formula 1: Mika Hakkinen, world champion

Article Abstract:

Mika Hakkinen and Team McLaren-Mercedes won the 1998 Formula 1 world championship on the strength of Hakkinen's victory in the Japanese Grand Prix. The win was a fitting reward for a man who had endured a spell in the ranks of so-called Formula 1 also-ran drivers.

Article Abstract:

Mika Hakkinen has won the 1998 Spanish Grand Prix and Monaco Grand Prix racing events. Hakkinen is considered as the favorite to win the 1998 Drivers World Championship over other racing drivers, including David Coulthard, Giancarlo Fisichella and Alexander Wurz.
