It is a challenge to master the technique of starting the first phase of racing a Chevrolet S-10 Pro-Stock pickup truck. The goal is to dig out and perform a burnout pass the 60-foot mark so that the 17 inch-wide Goodyear tires are heated up for better traction. The author attempted it but managed to ruin the transmission. The S-10 Pro-Stock truck is a specialty of Jerry Haas who has built these unique trucks for the National Hot Rod Association Pro-Stock Truck race series. Haas holds the record of 176.70 mph in the quarter mile. The Pro-Stock Truck series is targeted for racing fans who are pickup truck dirvers, and aims to attract both veteran and novice drag racers.

A Mercedes E320 was given to Hartmut Feyhl, founder and president of RENNTech Performance Tuning, and the vehicle was overhauled. A V-12 engine was put in and exhaust systems were modified to handle the extra demands made by the engine. Brakes and tires were also improved. A computer glitch caused the fuel pump to stop working at 185 miles per hour though the problem was fixable.
