The 1997 24 Hours of Daytona car racing competition that was won by Giapiero Morretti's Team MOMO is described. The victory was Morretti's first after 20 years of competing in the event. The winning car was a Ferrari and was driven by Mauro Baldi, Arie Luyendyk and Didier Theys.

Oval-track racing cars called mini-sprints and dwarf cars are increasing in popularity. The dwarf cars are 5/8-scale replicas of 1928 to 1948 stock cars. Mini-sprints are 3/4 as large as full midgets and are chain-driven by a motorcycle engine.
