1893 Duryea: America's first automobile, brought back to life

Article Abstract:

The Duryea was the first production automobile in the US. The original was completed on Sep 21, 1893, and now resides in the Smithsonian Institution. A reproduction of the car, built by auto shop instructor Richard Stevens, is test driven. The history of the Duryea is discussed.

Article Abstract:

The sounds of car engines and musical instruments were evaluated to test if there is a relationship between them using a Digital Audio Tape recorder. Engines tested were Porsche 911's flat-6, Corvette's V-8, Ferrari 550 Maranello's V-12 and the Viper's V-10.
