An automobile's cooling system is vital to proper functioning of the engine and should be checked twice a year. Hoses and belts should be tested for correct tension and wear. Other problems may include leaks, faulty thermostatic control, a damaged water pump, malfunctioning pressure caps, and a worn or damaged fan and fan clutch.

Article Abstract:

Approaching warmer weather, and increased vacation use of the car are factors which put demands on the cooling systems, Overcooling is as bad as overheating. Prevention maintenance includes coolant change as well as engine and radiator monitoring. Each part of the system needs a spring check-up.

Cooling system failures occur mostly in summer, and even when the customer has had an oil and lube change, if the car overheats he will blame you. By pressurizing the system, checking belt and hoses, the customer will come back for your business. A basic 12 point check-up is explained.
