Why the X Prize?

Article Abstract:

The X Prize aims to expedite the creation of the first spaceships that are capable of satisfying the demand for public spaceflight. It is similar to the Orteig Prize which offered a a prize of $25,000 for the first nonstop flight between New York and Paris, France.

Moon-Mars? Not now!

Article Abstract:

A Moon-Mars space program is not economically feasible at this time since it cannot produce any returns commensurate with its cost. Sharp cost reductions must first be achieved before the program becomes possible.
