Cape Kennedy sends one of its own

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration chose Kay Hire, an engineer from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), in December 1994 to become an astronaut. Hire's selection marked the first time a KSC employee from the ground processing team had risen to the flight team.
