The 'X' Prize update: enabling the human ingenuity and adventure in space

Article Abstract:

An update on the activities of the 'X' Prize Foundation is presented. The foundation is already in the process of analyzing its market survey of interested contestants and soliciting the support of sponsors for prizes. The foundation is also working actively on legislations which will allow participants to launch in their own state.

1998: A key year in the commercialization of space

Article Abstract:

The commercialization of outer space is considered to have started in 1998 due to the numerous testing of cost-effective launch vehicles. Some of the lauch vehicles to be tested in 1998 are NASA's reusable space launchers, Boeing's Sea Launch project and Lockheed Martin's Single Stage Rocket Technology.

National Space Society, after launching its on-line Mars coverage, "Mars Madness," recorded a daily average of one million subscription. The web-site, which features a research archive, may serve as a reference calendar for Mars missions, landings and sites.
