Article Abstract:
Fusion-based rocket propulsion systems were proven to be the most reliable approach in accomplishing robotic missions. The use of fusion power in terrestrial activities has been studied for many years but it was never attained. However, developments that ensure its success have been made.

Life support systems used by the NASA in their outer space missions have grown in complexity, safety, redundancy and comfort. Astronaut Michael Collins predicted that advanced life support could be among the technologies that would make human settlement in outer space a possibility.

Budget constraints since roughly the mid 1980s has forced space-based research to do more with less. To keep costs low, space scientists are relying on miniaturization. NASA for one is engaging in a project which relies on the production of tens to hundreds of nanosatellites.
