Article Abstract:

Environmental problems may be controlled through restrictive, adaptive or geoengineering countermeasures. However, the scientific front may not be able to totally contain or reverse the damage which is being done. The efforts made on Earth could provide a basis for future ventures into other planets.

Air-breathing competition

Article Abstract:

Plans for the US National Aero-Space Plane program's experimental design for a plane that flies at hypersonic speeds, was cut out of NASA's budget. The General Accounting Office reports that European countries will be strong competition for the US.

Hush-hush nuclear rocket project

Article Abstract:

A new nuclear rocket propulsion technology was announced on Jan 13, 1992. It could greatly reduce the cost of space launches and travel time. Nuclear engines could also have twice the performance levels of conventional engines.
