Article Abstract:

NASA studies on the probability and effect of comet or asteroid hitting the Earth were prompted by US Congress in 1990. Despite beliefs that such an impact wiped out dinosaurs, there is little chance that any of the over 3,000 known asteroids and comets crosssing the Earth's orbit will hit.
