Constructing 'space resorts' can be done by integrating such leisure concepts to industrial and research space facilities and can be done cost-effectively by using existing technologies from the International Space Station program.

Astronaut Byron K. Lichtenberg believes that the slow progression from advances in sub-orbital flight to orbital flight will provide the impetus for space tourism. Space tourism is only a matter of reducing the cost and complexity of space flight for the average person, and the best way to do so is to encourage private participation in space flight research.
