One deep space detour

Article Abstract:

Changes have been made with regards to Deep Space 1 probe's flight path to take advantage of its October 15, 1998 launching. Mission planners at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have included an asteroid called 1992 KD to the space probe's flight target.

Space beat: The Armada gathers destination Mars

Article Abstract:

NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft will be the first to set leave port over the next few years in an armada of spacecraft sailing to the Red Planet. It will launch on April 7 aboard a Delta II rocket and arrive at Mars on October 20, 2001.

Mars Global Surveyor arrives at Red Planet - detects Martian magnetic field

Article Abstract:

NASA's Mars Global Surveyor craft entered the Martian atmosphere on Sep 11, 1997. One of the significant findings by the Martian exploration craft prior to its orbit includes a confirmation of the Martian magnetic field.
