Article Abstract:

Future project development of the National Aerospace Plane (NASP) remains uncertain as a result of various corporate and political problems. Discontinuation of the project is viewed as a signigificant drawback in the development of a single-stage-to-orbit airbreathing vehicle.

NASA Administrator Richard Truly was fired from his post on Feb 12, 1992 due to differences on how to restructure the agency. He was the first astronaut to serve as the space agency's chief and the first one to be fired.
