However, some scientists claim that Mars may have harbored life in the distant past.

Much excitement has been generated by NASA's announcement that a Martian meteorite provides evidence of extraterrestrial life. NASA based its findings on the age and origin of the sample, the presence of biomarkers and the existence of microfossils.
