Launch options loom large for NASA's new mission

Article Abstract:

Design engineers at the premier space agency, NASA are working on developing more powerful rockets capable of carrying man and machine to the moon as well as other planets like the Mars, if possible. Engineers are working on the Delta 4 as well as the Atlas 5 platforms and it is felt that a shuttle-derived vehicle will be the best option to develop these heavy-duty launchers specially since the required infrastructure is already in place.

The real cost of the new space plan

Article Abstract:

Detractors of America's Exploration Vision program are worried of the huge financial costs involved in the project especially since the vision includes exploration of the moon as well as Mars and beyond. It is felt that while the program on its own has a lot of merit there are a lot of other factors like the command structure at NASA that must be considered before undertaking such missions.

Issues are presented concerning more signs of water, past and possibly present, on Mars, based on images from the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft. Other issues concerning the dust storm seen on Mars, the Viking's silver anniversary and the Pluto and Outer Solar System Explorer (POSSE) mission are also presented.
