Ice on the rocks: Lunar Prospector discovers ice at moon's poles

Article Abstract:

Mission scientists from NASA's Lunar Prospector found proof of the presence of lunar water ice, including estimates of its volume, location and distribution. The existence of water ice at the two lunar poles is strongly suggested by information from the Lunar Prospector's neutron spectrometer. Wesley Huntress, NASA Associate Administrator for Space Science, warned that the finding is of prime interest since it may affect the rate and importance of cometary impacts in the history and evolution of the Solar System.
