Space exploration vehicles utilize digital transmission techniques to send back data to mission control centers on Earth. Photographs and voice communications are digitalized during transmission then reverted back to its analog form when received on Earth.

Rockets require a large amount of fuel to go into orbit. The fuel tanks are discarded at several stages to decrease the weight carried by the rocket. However, single-stage-to-orbit rockets have already been designed that use only one rocket stage.

The failure of several launch vehicles in 1995 can be traced to the overall reliability of their numerous parts. A statistical analysis of system failure and what it means in terms of launch vehicle design is discussed.
