NASA's Origins program aims to tackle some of the fundamental questions of human existence such as the nature of the universe and the existence of life on other worlds. This will certainly heighten public interest in space exploration and vastly improve mankind's knowledge of the universe.

Implications of the bacteria-like structures found on a Martian rock were the subject of the symposium 'Life in the Universe: What Might Martian Fossils Tell Us?' The possibilities of extraterrestrial life and arguments for manned exploration of Mars were addressed by several speakers.
