Article Abstract:
The reasons behind shelving NASA's Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter (JIMO), which would launch on an unprecedented tour of three of Jupiter's icy Moons, Callisto, Ganymede and Europa, are described. NASA is planning to conduct a series of complex ground tests and if all goes well, it expects to fly its first reactor-powered in-space demonstration in 2014 and it has also postponed the idea of deconstructing JIMO in favor of a less challenging demonstration.
