Capsules: cost effective and capable

Article Abstract:

A capsule entails less risk that offers robust abort modes in all phases of ascent as proven by Mercury, Apollo and Soyuz. A capsule system would enjoy a less complicated test program than winged one that would result in less time and money to qualify the system that results in quicker deployments.

Some of the prior attempts to create a reusable launch vehicle and the way each fared are overviewed. The DC-X and the DC-XA, the X-33, the X-34, the X-37 and the X-38 are the spacecrafts that are discussed along with their present conditions.
