Article Abstract:

An astrobiologist is required to have an understanding of physics, chemistry, microbiology, as well as the ability to response to questions regarding how life began, how it evolved and is the Earth population alone in the universe. The University of Washington is creating a program to develop a new kind of scientist. The development of the program, based on astrobiology as the study of life in a universal context, is described.

Spacesuits, firefighters, and helping heroes

Article Abstract:

NASA technology for developing special suits for the harsh space environment and for use when dealing with toxic explosive propellants has been applied to improvement of urban firefighter equipment. The space suit technology will provide improved protection, endurance and safety for the firefighter.
