The experience of place

Article Abstract:

A photo essay examines how people's relationship with the place they live affects who they are and what they can become. People absorb where they live in a simultaneous perception that allows them to behave in a way that is seemingly oblivious to their surroundings. Overdevelopment and urban sprawl can damage lives in addition to the environment. In order to avoid this danger people need to live in areas that nurture personal growth, protect the environment and where homes and jobs can be developed for all.

S.O.P

Article Abstract:

Sense of place is an individual perception rather than an objective quality that can be captured in a photograph. Language and the art of photography imbue a landscape with a sense of place only to the extent that they inspire a satisfaction of a person's need to feel that security. Human society functions by such recognitions of security as sense of place even if the recognition is merely subjective and socially agreed upon rather than real.

Outside (but not necessarily beyond) the landscape

Article Abstract:

Landscape photography has traditionally been used to seduce with misleading images. However contemporary photographers are beginning to introduce terrifying messages into the landscapes of their art and are not making the pretty, conventional pictures of the past. Photographers are casting their vision, or message or inner landscape into the outer landscape of the photographs.
