Article Abstract:
A brief history of concert dance in Israel, and a descriptive account of choreographic and motional themes that distinguish contemporary Israeli dance is presented. Ohad Naharin, who started working with Batsheva Dance Company in 1990, has choreographed 22 concerts in thirteen years and his 1995 creation, 'Z/na' is an example of his rich theatrical imagination, his surprises and humor, text and singing, are a mask of covering pain, as presented by Yossi Yungman in the second half of the full evening dance that begins with a whisper 'invisible unless in final pain'.

Folk dancing provides choreographers with many challenges. They must carefully address different and significant details whether they are rendering an accurate portrayal or reinterpreting tradition. These details range from costuming and musical composition to degree of body movement, and must be evaluated according to the importance a culture places on them.

An attempt is made to expand the research and writing works so that dance ethnologist becomes more relevant outside the dance field. Few areas that can provide better possibilities for future research are also listed.
