The annual Youth America Grand Prix ballet competition is argued to feature the best ballet dancers of New York. The nine dancers from the Martha Graham Dance Company performed an excerpt from Cave of the Heart and the complete Appalachian Spring at the Hollywood Bowl, which is run by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The year 2005 marks the sixtieth anniversary of Appalachian Spring, a signature work for both Graham and the composer Aaron Copland.
