Donald MacLeary on Nureyev

Article Abstract:

Royal Ballet dancer Donald MacLeary remembers Rudolf Nureyev from the time he first left the Soviet Union to dance in the West. MacLeary describes the differences between Russian and British dancing styles and training. Nureyev defected from the Soviet Union partly because he wanted to further himself artistically. MacLeary notes that the Russian ballet companies perform only classics and no new material which frustrated creative artists like Nureyev.
