Article Abstract:
Norman Cherner, a prolific designer who produced innovations in everything ranging from modular furniture to prefabricated houses, successfully applied his skill as an industrial designer to residential design. The Cherner chair, designed in 1958 by him and reissued in 2002 was hugely successful among designers, architects and consumers, which were reflected in his do-it-yourself books "Make Your Own Modern Furniture" (1951) and "How to Build Children's Toys and Furniture" (1954).

Traditionally a manufacturer of metal components such as commercial and industrial plumbing and electrical parts, Chase Brass & Copper Company after the Great Depression of 1929 diversified into manufacturing of brass article. The company employed industrial designers who worked on giftware fashioned from chrome, copper, brass and other metals played a major role in the success of the company.

The most effective posters must not only be a signpost for the present but also a timeless document for the future, propagating a message long after its short posting time.
