Article Abstract:
The Frankfurt Ballet performed William Forsythe's Eidos: Telos at the Festival Internationale de Nouvelle Danse in Montreal, Quebec in Jan 1996. The company's physical style developed in even, slow tempos and by wearing socks instead of pointe shoes. Dana Caspersen presented the work's emblem in the central role of part two by linking the legends of Persephone and Arachne. Caspersen gave a brilliant, virtuoso performance and demonstrated her artistic command.

Bockenheimer Depot, an erstwhile tram station outfitted with a 250-seat performance space, is William Forsythe's laboratory since 1999 here one could see his own thinking, his own work in development and that of his dancers and other artists who interest him. He once presented a ballet made in two parts, act 1 on the Opera House stage and act 2 across town on this open dance floor, with the audience transported at intermission.

The ballets of 'Cinderella' and 'Swan Lake,' choreographed by Matthew Bourne in 1997 and 1998, show one direction in which British dance is headed. Bourne set his version of 'Cinderella' in London during the World War II blitz, and used an all-male chorus in 'Swan Lake.'
