Dauberval's 'Le Siege de Cythere', 1791: a commentary and translation

Article Abstract:

The recent discovery of an annotated libretto from Jean Bercher Dauberval's 'Le Siege de Cythere' may help dance historians envision ballet en action. This style, originating with Dauber's teacher Jean Georges Noverre, is almost unknown today because of a paucity of detailed documentation. Presented here is a translation of the libretto, with annotations made by the original leading danseuse, Dauberval's wife Theodore.

The choreography of Andree Howard: some further information

Article Abstract:

Andree Howard was a choreographer and dancer who worked primarily with the Rambert Dance Company. She was particularly well-known for her creations of half-humans, half-animals for ballet productions, for instance, for 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' She choreographed some commercial revues, but felt limited by this type of work. Her most important work took place during the 1930s and 40s.
