Article Abstract:
Computer software offers the choreographer and ballet teacher some marvelous aids, however it is rarely used. Even the Internet, which brings together dancers from all over the world seems to be more odious than inspiring. However, the dance company Palindrome has incorporated computers to generate interaction between dancers and their audience. In one performance, dancers wear electrode sensors to pick up their heartbeat and transmit it to the audience.

Aesthetic and educational issues should be examined in conjunction with the widespread use of computers in dance performances and workshops. Often dancers and dance teachers feel uncertain about the use of technology in this medium. Technologies such as video or computer image processing can provide greater expression and opportunities.

The use of technology as an an interactive and creative partner to dancers has been around for thousands of years and will continue. But dance technology demands collaboration between the choreographers and the performers. The audience must not be absorbed in the tricks of the technology, but in the performance itself.
