Bucharest Modern

Article Abstract:

An overview of the use of Modernism in the 1920s and 1930s design architecture in Bucharest is presented. Several examples including the 1934 Cantacuzino apartment building designed by Marcel Locar and incorporating Art Deco-style style of Romanian modernist architecture and the Casa Prager (1937) designed by Arghir Culina are discussed to illustrate the quality, quantity and inventiveness of the designs.

An exhibition titled " The Societe Anonyme: Modernism for America" is scheduled to be held at the Phillips Collection, Washington, from January 21, 2007.
