Top dogs: 14 newspapers are judged to be the best in the world

Article Abstract:

The 19th annual best of newspaper design contest declared 14 newspapers from six countries as the best in the world. The five-member panel of judges based their decisions on several aspects including excellence in newspaper graphics and design, storytelling, headlines and photography. There were three subdivisions according to the number of circulation. The competition was participated by 291 entries from 27 countries including Mexico, Canada and Spain.

The 22 best designed newspapers in the world

Article Abstract:

The Society of Newspaper Design annual contest in 1996 held at Syracuse University was dominated by Spanish newspapers. Madrid's 'El Mundo' received 58 awards while 'El Pais de las Tentaciones,' received the title Best of Show. The contest was joined by 143 newspapers from various countries including the US. Other winners were the 'Anchorage Daily News,' 'Diario de Noticias,' 'Dallas Morning News,' 'San Francisco Examiner' and 'The New York Times.'

Article Abstract:

At the 1992 convention of the Associated Press Managing Editors, people from outside the newspaper design industry were asked to design frong pages for newspapers. The result was more succinct, better organized and color-coded pages.
