The 1953 Daphne Funeral Home in San Francisco, CA, is about to be demolished to allow the construction of low-income residential units. The funeral home, designed by architect and former University of Southern California Dean A. Quincy Jones, is a testament to the Zenlike aspect of high modernism with its elegant closed and open spaces, glass and redwood, cantilevers and grounded forms. Beige terrazzo, plaster and redwood emit a sense of rational warmth for the funeral home.
