French colonialism remains alive in Ste. Genevieve, MO, the first French settlement in the state. The town also boasts of a German heritage as many Germans migrated to the town in the early to mid-1840s. The Jour de Fete in August and a Bastille Day celebration in July are held in honor of its French and German heritage.
