Space planning with Archibus/FM

Article Abstract:

Computer-aided facility management (CAFM) provides a wide range of options for the design, management and maintenance of institutional facilities. CAFM software uses computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems as the graphic component, combined with other software consisting of databases linked to CADD. Archibus/FM modules are capable of producing architecture- specific symbols and drafting routines. The networks software can be linked with databases with spreadsheet applications to support a variety of design and management functions.

The computer collaborator

Article Abstract:

Design software empower architects and interior designers to control the entire creative process from a single, desktop environment. However, software must be perceived as more than evil necessities to get the most out them. Recent developments in design technology include Graphisoft's object-oriented ArchiCAD product for simulating designs from the conceptual to the construction stages and MicroStation TriForma's single building model for managing the architectural workflow.

More vision, less dazzle

Article Abstract:

The use of computer aided design systems within a company often fails because the correct management structure is not in place. It is estimated that between 60% and 70% of computer capability is unused, because managers have been unaware of what they are purchasing, had not implemented it successfully or did not know what they needed.
