Article Abstract:

Designer Michael Vanderbyl was commissioned for the interiors and store layout of the Robert Talbott Inc's men's boutique in Carmel, CA. Vanderbyl was tasked with creating a total image for the client, expressed in the store layout and merchandising strategy for a 650-sq ft store. vanderbyl displayed shirts and ties together on the walls and specially-designed storage units. Two square tables showcase additional tie merchandise. Store interiors are enlivened with recessed lighting and small, shaded lamps distributed all over the store.

Bernhardt Furniture Company Inc commissioned Michael Vanderbyl to assist in directing the company's growth. Vanderbyl enhanced the company's strength in wood products manufacturing by introducing more contemporary designs. Vanderbyl designed everything from graphics to the furniture trucks. He also took charge of commissioning leading architects to design new furniture lines for the company. Bernhardt's sales hasgrown from $5 million to $30 million in five years.

Article Abstract:

Designer Michael Vanderbyl's work for Esprit de Corp was recognized by Time magazine as one of its 'Best of 1987' selection. Vanderbyl designed the display area for Esprit's bed and bath collection using peach, blue and ash rendered in checkerboard, striped, squiggled and geometrically mixed designs. Vanderbyl used high-tech detailing of dispaly merchandise display to achieve a contemporary look. Vanderbyl has also designed a shoe showroom for Esprit.
