Seattle-based Wanzer Munizza Design Studio redesigned several of Retailer Recreational Equipment Inc's (REI) stores and thus received the award of Best Retail Project during the 19th Annual Interiors Awards Competition. The designers sought to create a store environment which would depict an appealing lifestyle concept. Fanlike trellises made from steel supports and fir timbers were installed at the entry, fitting rooms, cashwrap and feature focus area at the store's rear area.

DDB Needham New York advertising agency hired the services of Mayers & Schiff Assoc to create a more colorful, informative office building. The designers utilized freeform carpet shapes, half-round desks and curved ceiling in the reception rooms. Also included in the features is a reception room with a cafe setting designed for impromptu and informal meetings. A theater-seating video room is also included, providing an entertaining and informative aura to the setup.

Pentagram designed a 6,500 square-foot exhibition at the central area of the Ahmet Ertegun Exhibition Hall that highlights the music, politics, art and culture of the psychedelic era, 1965-1969. The masterpiece works include an immortalization of the 'Flower Power' expressed in a giant daisy footprint with radiating petals that portray the memories of each year in the psychedelic era. A collection of more than 500 objects and cultural artifacts are also on display.
