Article Abstract:

A survey of the Society of Newspaper Design members revealed that 94% of members are white, 75% are supervisors and 69% are female. The organisation has a lower percentage of minorities than the industry and this is due to the high number who are in a managerial position. Many newspaper publishers believe they could increase readership numbers if they employed more coloured people as journalists.

Article Abstract:

Major events in the newspaper industry are evaluated based on the significance they carry. In addition, future implications arising from these events are also presented. Among the industry news included are the tenth anniversary of USA Today, the graphics-packed special section on the 1992 Olympics in the New York Times and the unveiling of a portable, electronic newspaper.

Article Abstract:

The long-predicted demise of the newspaper has yet to occur. Readership and advertising revenues are down, papers are even closing, but the coverage of the Persian Gulf War demonstrates that newspapers still fulfill a vital role. Journalists should focus on making newspapers necessary to their readers by providing the best documentation of current events possible.
