Pasadena, CA-based C and J Partners succeeded in its attempt to make the NASDAQ Market Inc site in New York City as impressively high-tech as possible. The interior design firm used subdued cove lighting and bold geometries to accentuate the office's almost intergalactic appeal. The reception area alone has has a polished metal desk and a metallic fabric sculpture of a microprocessor chip occupying an entire wall. The viewing gallery boasts of a 50-ft-wide video wall of 100 monitors for the display of stock prices and earnings reports.

Many houses are decorated to excess. As more people become prosperous, houses are also getting overly decorated, stuffed with furniture that are impractical and not needed and designed in ways that would have been unthinkable in the more simple past. However, some designers are voicing out against this trend. One of these is architect John Pawson, who, in his book 'Minimalism,' advocates a return to simplicity and restraint.
