Kuwait live

Article Abstract:

Kuwait's National Assembly Building, the country's seat of power, was ravaged during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum Inc (HOK) was chosen from approximately 80 US and European design firms to reconstruct the building. HOK had to design and restore the 1,000-seat main assembly hall, a cafeteria, library, mosque, formal reception rooms, ante-chambers and offices for Kuwait's royalty, delegates and their staff. The design firm's competent and reliable management as well as its strategic and technical design ability enabled it to win the contract. The US Army Corps of Engineers was tasked to provide overall management and direction of the reconstruction project.
