Article Abstract:
The design of the new Il Fornaio restaurant in Irvine, CA, combines indoor and outdoor elements, creating a space where interior rooms flow out towards the exteriors and where the interplay of light, volume and rich detail give the restaurant a distinct character. A central rotunda with its white canvas roof provides the focus of the whole structure while two enclosed roofless piazzas provide the link between the inside and the outside. The finish materials and seating furniture are reminiscent of Italian country cafes but the rustic touch enhances the overall simple yet elegant design.

Article Abstract:
Stars, located in Frankfurt, Germany, is a restaurant whose design was inspired by the Big Bang Theory, the Space Race and 1960s era. Jordan Mozer and Assoc explored the concept of expansion and created a space where elements have gaps between them to artistically illustrate this theme. An example are the columns lining the entry which do not connect with the ceiling beams. The gaps are illuminated through indirect cove lighting to evoke weightlessness and a sense of space.

Article Abstract:
The Tempest Bar and Grill in Houston, TX, designed by Jordan Mozer and Assoc, Ltd shows the architect's toned down cartoonish style inspired by William Shakespeare's play about the magician Prospero who worked wonders on an enchanted island. The fictures are custom-designed in black velvet upholstery with a windblown effect radiating from the bar to the seats and display cases. The mural behind the bar shows images from the works of Queen Elizabeth I's astrologer John Dee.
