Jacqueline de Baer is a corporate clothing designer and has many large companies as clients. She has no formal design education nor business experience, but entered the profession by chance, via her brother-in-law's chain of boutiques in Spain. The industry is expanding by 50% per year in the 90's and is worth 300 million pounds sterling. It does not involve fashion as the outfit designs must last years, but must be recognisable. Many firms are cutting back on staff clothing expenditure, yet it spends a lot on corporate identity programmes.

Computer manufacturer NEC has had its new computer hardware family designed by industrial designer Ideo. Referred to as the 'greenhouse project', it aimed at giving the hardware a distinct and attractive visual design and to incorporate NEC's internal design group with its internal products division. The project is NEC's first strategic exercise with an outside design consultancy, although external designers have been previously used for one-off projects.

The managing director of Heals furniture retailer, Colin Pilgrim, who took over in 1990, is planning to to develop new merchandise and materials, launch a new in store design and new corporate logo. He is aiming to set Heals apart from Habitat and return to more classic forms of design. He envisages about seven branches of Heals in the UK.
