Article Abstract:
The Hospital Santa Engracia in Monterrey, Mexico, was designed by the team of Bernie Bortnick of Henningson, Durham & Richardson. Design features include a landscape plaza with sunken fountain to minimize street sounds, trellises that create a resort-like environment, and shaded courtyard garden. The hospital also has a dining room, chapel, exercise center and gift shops while private patient suites offer accommodations for family members.

Borg Design Studio's Wendy Borg designed the new pediatric isolation unit at the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. Borg, who had completed several other design projects for the hospital, used soothing colors throughout the unit, which was inspired by the hospital's old pediatric isolation unit on the seventh floor. She added more warmth by using maple wood strip and white painted reflectors.

HOK, the leading American multi-utility design firm, has introduced a checklist for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), called Project ADA. The 60 page survey system comprises about 600 requirements based on ADA specifications for design. The basic aim in introducing this checklist is to make the work of the staff easier. The checklist comprises important propositions for design criteria.
