The Society for News Design (SND), a close-knit group of design innovators and crusaders expanded around the world in 52 countries with 2,600 members and has the perspective of many designers in the United States, where it has its roots. The SND groups from around the globe have brought their unique design sensibilities and influence to the U.S. with work that is bold, beautiful and groundbreaking.

The Detroit News set a new standard for deadline storytelling that harkened to another era while gracefully using all the advances at hand in its 1991 Gulf war coverage. The News special sections, photo and graphic use were revolutionary work and its 'WAR' front page with the graphic on the cover was the centerpiece of that effort.

The readers in Boca Raton Fla., loved the News, redesigned and remade in 1990 in the experiment dubbed the '25/43 Project' in honor of its target audience, the 25- to 43 year olds. The 25/43 ProjectEs successes seals its place in journalism's hall of fame and its Knight Ridder pulled its resources from Boca Raton in 1991.
